Bully Seminar Held Sunday at Library

The Cedar Rapids Public Library is honored to be the host for a Bully Seminar onbully Sunday, November 10, from 1 pm to 4 pm, presented by the Girl Scouts of East Central Iowa and Western Illinois.

The seminar will consist of a special showing of the documentary BULLY followed by a forum with guest speakers Dawn Behar of Mt. Mercy University and Linn Mar Anti Bully Prevention Specialists Symon Sanborn and Andrew Lyons.

Filmed over the course of the 2009/2010 school year, BULLY opens a window onto the pained and often endangered lives of bullied kids, revealing a problem that transcends geographic, racial, ethnic and economic borders. It documents the responses of teachers and administrators to aggressive behaviors that defy “kids will be kids” clichés, and it captures a growing movement among parents and youths to change how bullying is handled in schools, in communities and in society as a whole.

Teens and parents are invited to attend this public event and encouraged to discuss the issues of bullying and bullying prevention.
