Save the Date!

The new Cedar Rapids Public Library will open to the public on Saturday, August 24, 2013. The public is invited to participate in a grand opening celebration, including an interactive ribbon-cutting, special programs and events, refreshments and more throughout the day. Stay tuned to our website in coming months for more information.

Construction continues inside the building with more drywall being completed, drop ceilings being installed, and fixtures in place. On the exterior, we continue to see work on the siding, including the special siding and lighting on the exterior of the auditorium.

  1. Can’t wait. Impact Photo took a great photo of our then young family at the grand opening of the new CR library by the river. Our youngest son, barely 3 years old was being totally uninterested. We hung on to him to stand still long enough for Ed Kempf to snap a photo by the round stairway. -We have GREAT memories of that library. It had a huge positive impact on our family. Who knew that the uninterested barely 3 year old boy would grow up to earn his masters in library Science and Technology. We hope to bring the family together and be there for this grand opening.

    • What a wonderful story! We hope to see you there. We should make sure we get a shot of the family at the new opening, one similar to the 1985 Grand Opening!
